World Sight Day - Ask an Optometrist
Next date: Thursday, 08 October 2026 | 10:30 AM
to 11:30 AM
Presented by Frankston optometrist Sunil Banga, this World Sight Day session will help older adults understand eye conditions that become more common with age.
Using everyday language, Sunil will explain how a healthy eye works before introducing cataracts, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration and dry eye.
Participants will learn about each condition’s prevalence, signs and symptoms, available treatments, and why some eye diseases can progress before any changes are noticed. Special “fogged glasses” will be passed around while participants remain seated, offering a simulation of how conditions may affect vision.
The presentation will also explore how reduced vision can influence mobility, falls risk, driving, medication management, social connection and independence.
Sunil will explain how latest tech including OCT imaging and IPL treatment for selected dry-eye conditions, can support earlier detection and care.
Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions regarding eye health issues.
