Our new Home Energy Saver Toolkits are now available for loan from Frankston City Libraries.
These tools includes a range of simple resources to use around your home to see where energy, water and gas is being wasted or lost, and provides practical and inexpensive fixes for renters and owners.
The loan period for each kit is 3 weeks. Loans on kit one and two cannot be renewed. Loans on kit three may be renewed if there are no other reservations.
Three toolkits are available:
Energy saving contact thermometer – to measure the air temperature around your house, hot water temperature, and fridge and freezer temperatures. You may have these hotter or colder than they need to be.
Non-contact infrared thermometer – a fast and fun way to see where you might lose or be gaining heat and cold air in your house. It measures the temperature of surfaces such as walls and windows without touching them. A great device for identifying opportunities for draught proofing, window coverings and insulation.
Water flow measuring cup – a simple device to discover how many litres of water your taps and showers are using each minute (and how that compares to recommended flow rates), to help you reduce hot water costs and water wastage.
Power-mate lite energy meter – measures the electricity consumption of all electrical appliances and will tell you the running costs. It can be used on fridges, freezers, televisions, microwaves, and computers etc. It is also helpful in understanding where standby power is being used unnecessarily.
