Book Club

Enjoy the benefits of being part of a book club, without the expense.

We are constantly looking for better ways to provide our book club program.  After consultation with various other libraries we have developed an improved book club program to offer in 2018.

What are Library Book Clubs?

  • A group of people who meet regularly to discuss a pre-selected book; usually they meet monthly to understand, appreciate and talk about the book they have read.
  • An opportunity to meet new people and discover new authors, share ideas and experiences about books and about our different lives.
  • A reason to read and an opportunity to share, a chance to get in touch with reading people and be active in a local friendly group.

What’s new?

  • Clubs now have complete control around setting and changing their meeting dates;
  • The book club’s reading list doesn’t have to be locked in by the end of the previous year;
  • Book clubs are able to make their book selection using the existing reservation system;
  • A club may have two book club sets out on loan at any one time;
  • The book club coordinator will be issued with the card on behalf of the book club’s membership;
  • Complete sets (10 books per club) will be issue regardless of the number of members in the club;
  • Only complete sets will be accepted on return;
  • Loans are for six weeks;
  • While there will continue to be no overdue charges for book club sets, the charges for damaged or lost items within the book club set will remain.In line with current council policy, no further loans are possible on any card with an outstanding charge.

Cost

$150 per club per year - the club will have this cost only, regardless of the number of members in the club.

Book Club Sets

Book Club Sets contain 10 copies of the same title and are available for loan by all Book Clubs registered with Frankston City Libraries. Most Sets also contain a discussion guide to help you with your discussion of the book.
