Reading Tails at Frankston North Community Centre Term 2 2024

Reading Tails - 650x400.jpg

Reading Tails is a program for primary-aged school children that utilises ‘Dog Assisted Education’ techniques to support reluctant readers. We create a comfortable space, work in short bursts of reading, provide incentives, allow students to select their books, discuss the books being read, and make reading a social experience.

This small-group program is aimed at children aged 6 to 12.

The benefits of Reading Tails include:

  • Increased confidence while reading
  • Increased involvement in the library community
  • Gaining a better understanding of dogs
  • Added motivation to keep reading
  • Increased emotional wellbeing
  • Easing anxiety around learning difficulties

3.45pm: Join us for a healthy after-school snack, provided by the community centre.

4.00pm: Program begins.

Funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services. This program encourages literacy skill development in children who need additional support. See www.dss.gov.au for more information.

Booking is essential for this program.

Spaces are limited, please advise if you can no longer attend.
