Celebrate Cultural Diversity Week With Us!
Published on 27 February 2025
This March, Frankston City Libraries is thrilled to celebrate Harmony Week and Cultural Diversity Week with a series of exciting events that highlight our rich, multicultural community. As part of this celebration, we’re launching a brand-new campaign, Love Your Library in Your Language, which invites everyone – especially those who speak a language other than English – to share what they love most about their library.
A Week of Connection and Celebration
We believe libraries are a place for everyone, regardless of background or language, to come together, learn, and connect. To honour this, we’re hosting a variety of special events during Harmony Week that celebrate cultural diversity and inclusivity.
Join us for an Author Talk with Daizy Mann featuring local voices who share stories that reflect the many cultures in our community. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear directly from authors who embrace the richness of multiculturalism in their works and engage in lively discussions about how diverse cultures shape our society. Find out more in the event listing below.
For those who enjoy the vibrancy of movement and music, don’t miss our Multicultural Dance Event! Celebrate the beauty of different cultures through dance performances that will get your feet tapping and your heart smiling. It’s a great way to experience the joy and energy that cultural diversity brings to our community. No bookings are required and you can see all the details below.
Love Your Library in Your Language – Share Your Story
In partnership with these events, we are excited to launch the Love Your Library in Your Language campaign with Public Libraries Victoria. We are asking library patrons to share their thoughts on what makes the library special to them. Whether you speak English, Mandarin, Greek, Italian, or any other language, we want to hear from you!
Visit your local branch and pick up a postcard to fill in with your message, written in your own language. Whether it’s a favorite book, a memorable event, or simply the welcoming space libraries provide, your stories help us understand the importance of libraries for all cultures and communities. By participating, you’ll be contributing to shaping how we serve our diverse community.
Why Participate?
The Love Your Library in Your Language campaign is about fostering a deeper connection between libraries and culturally and linguistically diverse communities. Your feedback will help us develop better resources, programs, and services that cater to everyone in our community.
As we celebrate Harmony Week and Cultural Diversity Week, let’s take a moment to reflect on the strength and beauty of our multicultural society. Our Libraries have long been a space where people from all walks of life come together to learn, share, and grow, and your stories are a crucial part of that journey.
We look forward to celebrating with you all this March.
