What is eduroam?
eduroam is short for "education roaming".
eduroam is a global initiative that gives staff and students access to the wireless networks of other educational and research institutions, with the login credentials of their home institution.
When configured eduroam users should be able to get a network connection at a visited institution just by opening their mobile device. Users are expected to have eduroam configured at your home institution before connecting at other institutions.

eduroam Policy
eduroam users must conform to their home institution's network Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) and when visiting Frankston City Libraries users must conform to The Frankston City Libraries Terms and Conditions (See below).
User privacy
Your login credentials are protected by the authentication eduroam protocol keeping your login password secret between you and your home institution.
Your username is visible to Frankston City Libraries’ and other eduroam authentication servers involved in getting your authentication request completed. It may be stored in a log which is protected by the institution running the server.
Using eduroam at Frankston City Libraries
If you have successfully configured access to eduroam at your home institution, you should be able to access it at a Franksotn City Libraries branch using the advertised eduroam wireless network with no change to your device setup.

Frankston City Council – Frankston Libraries Public WiFi Conditions of Use
Frankston City Council provides library members with access to a free WiFi service subject to the following conditions:
· There is no guarantee a device will work with the network.
· Council staff cannot provide technical assistance in configuring a device.
Security and safety
· The free WiFi service is not secure.
· It is not recommended that sensitive or personal information, such as bank account details and passwords, be transmitted over the wireless hotspot.
· Users should ensure that they have up-to-date virus protection on their laptop or personal device. Material downloaded from the Internet may contain viruses or other malware. Frankston City Council accepts no responsibility for any damage caused as a result of downloaded viruses or software.
· Frankston City Council assumes no responsibility or liability for the safety or security of any personal equipment or any damage caused resulting from the connection to Council’s wireless network.
· Users are responsible for ensuring that they are accessing the internet safely and lawfully.
· The wireless internet connection must not be used for any illegal or dangerous purpose, including, without limitation – sending unsolicited commercial email.
· Users must not interfere with the network or disrupt any other user, service or equipment.

Privacy
· You are not required to sign-in or create an account to access the free WiFi service however the service will access your device ID and IP address while you are connected.
· Council does not retain this information or use it to track users. Any personal information collected will only be used and shared as authorised by law.
