Reading Tails

Here at Frankston City Libraries, we love books and we want young people to feel the same.

Focused on building confidence and reducing anxiety for reluctant readers, our Reading Tails uses the fun of Dog Assisted Education to support reluctant readers by creating a comfortable space, short bursts of reading, providing incentives, allowing students to select their books, discussing the books being read and making reading a social experience.

Frankston City Libraries have been providing a platform to deliver Reading Tails through the provider, Canine Comprehension. This program is facilitated nationally utilising Animal Assisted Therapy techniques to encourage confidence in reading for children. This program specifically targets children who require improvement with behavioural problems, increase emotional wellbeing, ease anxiety around learning difficulties, and support young people with varying abilities.
