World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD), officially recognised by the United Nations in 2011. On this day individuals and organisations worldwide highlight the importance of the rights of older people, as prevention against the mistreatment and harm occurring in their communities.

Frankston Library is hosting a free information session run by Seniors Rights Victoria, to help raise awareness of elder abuse, as well as build capacity in the senior population by increasing knowledge and enabling people to talk openly about abuse and mistreatment within the community. This can lead to people becoming more assertive about their rights. It can also assist those who are being subjected to elder abuse to seek out support and assistance.

This hour-long session, Seniors Rights Victoria will aid in rediscovering what Respect for Elders means, as well as discuss preventing elder abuse and support available if you or someone you know is experiencing elder abuse.

If you, or someone you know is experiencing elder abuse, help is available through the confidential helpline on 1300 368 821. If it is an emergency, call 000.

This is a FREE event however bookings are essential due to limited places.
